Preparation for Dentures

Forget the stress and frustrations of dentures with Terracina Surgical Arts. With our state-of-the-art process, you’ll be able to regain your confidence in no time! Dentures are removable appliances that replace missing teeth. Dentures are made of hard materials such as acrylics, metal alloys, or porcelain. They are held in place by your upper and lower jawbone and gum tissue.

Preparing for Dentures

When preparing for dentures, Dr. Punjabi will perform a thorough examination and prepare the gums for the fitting of dentures. Since dentures are connected to the inside of the mouth it requires a thorough cleaning of the mouth before proceeding with the procedure. There will then be a impression done of your gums and lips to make sure they have taken an accurate measurement before beginning. If extractions need to be done before the final denture is made, patients are recommended to wear a soft acrylic denture during the healing process.

What to Expect During Extraction Surgery

If extractions are needed this is the first step you will take before denture impressions are even made. Extractions do require an extensive healing period especially is bone grafting is needed and can take up to 6 months before fully healed. After surgery, you are expected to bleed a little bit and can be controlled by using gauzes over the empty sockets. Bleeding will stop after a couple hours. Avoid drinking hot liquids, doing exercise, and keep your head elevated. If you continue to bleed after the day, you should call our office and keep your dentures on unless the bleeding is excessive.

Denture Preparation

Dentures can be a relatively simple process if done by a board-certified maxillofacial surgeon such as Dr. Punjabi at Terracina Surgical Arts. Impressions are made of your gums and you will be given a temporary denture to wear until the final product has returned from the lab. After you receive your final denture, our dedicated staff will go over any questions or concerns that you may have as well as show you how to properly install and wear your dentures and give tips and tricks to help them adhere to their fullest capability.
